Over-Seeding
Over-seeding is a quick and simple way to create a thick and healthy lawn that will help shade out weeds.
- Cut your lawn short to about 5 cm in height. This will allow the grass seed to fall to the soil surface with ease.
- Spread soil on bare spots and in sparse areas to enrich the soil and provide ideal conditions for the grass seed to grow.
- Spread grass seed on desired spots and gently rake the area to ensure that the seed contacts the soil.
- Follow with a starter fertilizer with high amounts of phosphorous (middle number) to promote root growth.
- Keep the area moist for 3 weeks.
Over-seeding your lawn 2 times a year will help keep it thick and healthy, thus preventing weeds to grow.
Spring: repairs winter damage and prepares the lawn for peak weed season
Later Summer/Early Fall: thickens lawns stressed by hot and dry summer weather.
